This post is an overview and discussion of the best TV brands in Kenya for 2024, the emphasis being on the value, durability, and technology they pack
When shopping for a TV, don’t make brand your last consideration. You should definitely focus on the specs and technical features you need, but brands can help you narrow down your options. They’re a good indicator of reliability.
Here are some of the best brands to consider while browsing. Just so you know, I’m not affiliated with any of them, so go with whatever feels right to you.
5. Hisense
Best Value TV Brand
I usually don’t recommend the Hisense brand in my appliance reviews, but when it comes to TVs, it’s a different story. Hisense is actually more known for their TVs than anything else, even though they make fridges, washing machines, and a full range of home appliances.
If you’re on a budget, Hisense is your best bet. They pack great features for a lower price, but the tradeoff is usually the build quality.
Hisense TVs tend to be a bit flimsy, made with the cheapest plastics around. But if you’re planning to mount the TV, this shouldn’t be an issue. Overall, Hisense is highly recommended for what they offer at the price they do it for.
4. TCL
TCL is a step up from Hisense in terms of build quality while still offering similar features. I’d place TCL TVs in the same tier as Hisense but with a slight edge.
They have thinner bezels and a sturdier build, though they do cost a bit more. So, if you like what Hisense offers but want something with better construction, TCL is the way to go.
3. Samsung
Best for Brightness
Samsung TVs are solid, but steer clear of their appliances. When it comes to QLED, Samsung is top-tier, though their recent venture into OLEDs isn’t quite on the level of LG or Sony.
Samsung’s QLEDs are super bright, which is a huge plus, but it feels like they tweak the colors a bit, so they don’t always look natural. Still, the main draw of Samsung’s QLEDs is their unmatched brightness, outshining most other panel types.
So, if your house gets a lot of natural light, a Samsung TV might be a good choice for daytime viewing without needing to draw the curtains.
2. LG
Best for Gaming & Color Contrast
LG gives you great value for your money and is a top choice for gaming. Since LG patented OLED technology, if you’re set on an OLED TV, LG is the smart pick. For a while, they were the only ones making OLED panels and even supplied them to other brands that also sell OLED TVs.
That said, OLED panels generally don’t match the peak brightness of Samsung’s QLEDs. So, if your room gets a lot of natural light during the day, you might find OLEDs a bit dim. But they really shine in darker rooms.
The LG C series OLEDs are fantastic—super low input lag( great for gaming) and excellent contrast. They’re perfect for dimly lit spaces and still impressive even if you’ve not used HDR. Plus, while older OLEDs had issues with burn-in, the technology has come a long way, so that’s not something to worry about anymore.
1. Sony
Best for Reliability & Durability
Sony is one of those brands that still knows how to make long-lasting TVs. And it’s not just about durability—Sony’s TVs come with spot-on colors and great contrast, making them perfect for both LED and OLED tech.
If I were choosing, I’d go for a TV running on ‘Google TV’ with Apple Airplay support (handy if you’ve got iPhones in the house). That rules out LG and Samsung, so Sony would be the best pick.
As for Sony Broadcast Monitors, they’re rock solid, skip the unnecessary “smart” frills, deliver precise color accuracy, and most importantly, don’t come with annoying features like motion smoothing.
LG comes close, but Sony is just the most consistent across all their models.
Final Recommendations
If Panasonic were still around, I’d recommend them too, but they’re out of the TV game now- although they still make other appliances like water dispensers
Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic are all top-tier brands. LG and Samsung even make their own panels, while most other brands use panels from them that don’t make the first cut.
TCL and Hisense sit in tier 2, although some of their models can outperform certain tier 1 models.
Overall, Sony, Samsung, and LG stand above the rest. Stick with these big three, and you’re less likely to run into problems.
