Score Energy Drinks Flavors and Review

Score is a South African energy drink brand made by Chill Beverages. Let me just say it’s basically Monster’s doppelgänger. After trying out a few flavors, I can only call it what it is: a “Monster copycat.”

In fact, Score reproduces Monster so much that at times, it feels more Monster than Monster itself—if that even makes sense.

Same hefty 500ml (17 fl. oz) serving size, identical caffeine kick, and yep, Guarana extract too. Taste? Spot-on to Monster. Honestly, in a blind taste test, good luck telling the two apart.

Score is primarily found in South Africa and has made its way to 10 other African countries. It’s technically available in the UK and US, but only through small retailers importing it. Translation: it’s a bit of a scavenger hunt to get your hands on it in those places.

Score currently has different 8 flavors as follows

  • Double Shot Guarana (Original)
  • Citrus (Striker)
  • Cranberry (Dash)
  • Coconut & Pine (Crush)
  • Dry Lemon
  • Passion
  • Pink Lemonade

GT is simply “Great Taste” and it is the sugar-free option from the bunch, the original flavor is available in two sizes 250ml and 500ml meanwhile the other flavors are only available in 500ml

Score Energy Drink Taste

When you crack open a can, you get that sweet, fruity aroma typical of any fruit-flavored energy drink. I’ve tried the passion, dry lemon, and citrus flavors before.

Passion is definitely my favorite, but in general, Score energy drinks are less sweet compared to Monster and have a bubbly, almost sparkling quality to them.

If you’re a fan of Monster, you’ll probably enjoy Score too. It doesn’t have that sticky aftertaste that Monster can sometimes have; instead, it’s light, clean-tasting, and consistent with each sip.

Plus, it’s not too acidic or harsh on the throat—it’s mild, but not so mild that it’s boring. The only downside I’ve noticed is that Score makes me burp a lot. Like, a lot.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Score Energy Drink Caffeine

Score has 32mg of caffeine per 100ml, which is typical for most energy drinks, adding up to 160mg in a 500ml can. With the daily caffeine limit for adults at about 400mg, it’s best to stick to no more than two cans a day.

In terms of caffeine content, Score’s 160mg per 500ml sits just below Monster, which has 180mg, but slightly above Red Bull, which would have 150mg for the same volume.

So, for reference, Score’s caffeine level is right between Red Bull and Monster.

Score Energy Drink Ingredients

The ingredients in Score (sugar-free option) include water, citric acid, sodium citrate, guarana extract, preservatives, caffeine, sweeteners, flavorings, and vitamins.

Side Effects

The side effects of Score energy drink are the same as any other energy drink. These can include jitteriness, increased heart rate, trouble sleeping, headaches, and potential caffeine dependence if consumed excessively.

If you drink more than the recommended amount, you might take in excess caffeine, which isn’t good for your heart health and could contribute to heart-related issues.

Also, the sugar content can be pretty bad for you—unless you’re opting for the sugar-free version, which makes that one less thing to worry about.

Is Score Energy Drink good for studying?

Score energy drink is a decent option for studying, similar to Red Bull and Monster. There’s nothing particularly unique or special about it—its caffeine concentration is in the same range as the others, which is what most people looking for a study boost focus on rather than the taste.

So if you’re just after an energy kick to help you stay alert while studying, Score can do the job just as well as Red Bull or Monster.
