Air Fryer Crispy Potato Cubes Recipe

26 February 2024|Global Cuisine

Air fryer potato cubes are essentially tender potato cubes parboiled to perfection, then tossed in a glug of oil and your favorite seasonings before taking a delightful spin in the air fryer. The result? Crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside potato perfection!

Ingredients

  •  3 large potatoes
  •  1-2 tablespoons oil (olive oil or vegetable oil works well)
  •  1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  •  1 teaspoon seasoning blend (like Italian seasoning or your favorite herb blend)
  •  1/2 teaspoon paprika

Prepare Potatoes: Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. You can peel them if you prefer, but leaving the skin on adds extra texture and nutrients. Cut the potatoes into evenly sized cubes, about 1 inch in size.

Procedure

1. Parboil Potatoes:

  •  Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  •  Add a glug of vinegar or some baking soda to the boiling water. Parboiling with alkaline water makes for a starchy exterior that with enough oil gets so crispy.
  •  Carefully add the potato cubes to the boiling water.
  •  Boil the potatoes for about 10 minutes or until they’re softened but not fully cooked.
  •  Drain the potatoes in a colander and rinse them with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  •  Pat the potatoes dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.

2. Season Potatoes: In a large bowl, toss the potato cubes with oil until they are evenly coated. Then sprinkle salt, seasoning blend, and paprika over the potatoes. Toss again to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.

3. Air Frying

  •  Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F).
  •  Arrange the seasoned potato cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Ensure they’re not overcrowded.
  •  Air fry the potatoes for about 10 minutes at 190°C (375°F).
  •  After 10 minutes, remove the basket from the air fryer and shake or toss the potatoes to ensure even cooking.
  •  Increase the temperature to 200°C (400°F) and return the basket to the air fryer.
  •  Continue air frying for another 10 minutes or until the potatoes are

4. Check for Doneness: Check the potatoes for doneness after about 20 minutes. They should be golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. If they need more time, continue cooking in 2-3 minute increments until desired crispiness is achieved.

If your air fryer doesn’t have a basket, ensure to shake or toss the potatoes halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crisping.  Adjust seasoning according to your taste preferences.

5. Serve: Once done, remove the potato cubes from the air fryer and transfer them to a serving dish. Serve hot as a delicious side dish or snack.

Optional: Feel free to garnish with fresh herbs like chopped parsley or chives before serving for an extra burst of flavor.
